Mr Gibbons contacted us through Bark while planning further work on his home in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. He initially enquired about both cavity wall insulation and loft insulation, so John Stirling arranged a visit to assess the property and discuss the redevelopment plans.
Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Work completed: Old loft insulation removed, 300 mm of Knauf loft insulation installed, and a new integrated loft hatch and ladder fitted
Time on site: One day
Assessing the property
John attended at the agreed time and discussed the ongoing redevelopment with Mr Gibbons. After inspecting the cavity walls and considering the planned work, he concluded that cavity wall insulation was not suitable at that stage.
The loft space was due to remain as it was, so John carried out a more detailed survey there. He found that the existing loft insulation was beyond saving and recommended its removal and replacement with 300 mm of Knauf loft insulation.
Improving access to the loft
The survey also identified a problem with access. The existing loft hatch made entry difficult and was not suitable for a loft ladder. We recommended repositioning the access point to a bedroom and fitting an integrated loft hatch and ladder, giving Mr Gibbons a more practical way into the space.
From quotation to installation
Mr Gibbons compared our quotation with those from other companies. He found it favourable and felt reassured by the warranty cover we offered, so he chose us to carry out the work.
We arranged the installation for the following week. In one day, we removed the old insulation, installed 300 mm of Knauf loft insulation and fitted the new hatch and ladder.
The result
Mr Gibbons now has new loft insulation and a more practical access point for the loft. The completed work is backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty, subject to its terms.
