Insulation is one of the best ways to improve comfort and reduce heat loss — but like anything in building work, it only works properly when it’s part of a system.
Sometimes, mould appears or moves after insulation work. That doesn’t mean insulation is “bad”. It usually means the home’s behaviour changed — and the new condensation point moved somewhere else.

How mould “moves” after upgrades
When one area of the home becomes warmer, moisture often stops condensing there — but it doesn’t vanish. It settles on the next coldest surface instead.
This is why mould can move from windows to corners, corners to ceilings, or from one room to another after partial upgrades.
What you don’t want to see
- insulation added in one area, but mould appears somewhere new,
- loft insulation that looks deep in the middle, but thin at the edges,
- blocked eaves or restricted roof ventilation after works,
- sloped ceilings (skillings) left as cold “transition” areas,
- moisture “managed” with ventilation routines instead of removed at the cause.
What we check when insulation is part of the story

- what insulation is present and whether it’s continuous at the perimeter,
- whether ventilation paths (especially at eaves) are still working,
- whether sloped ceiling areas are properly insulated and detailed,
- whether condensation relief exists where it needs to.
