It’s another one you hear all the time.
“The loft’s been done.”
Usually said with a bit of confidence.
As in:
“That part’s sorted.”
And again, on the surface, it sounds clear.
Someone’s been up there.
Something’s been installed.
There’s insulation in place.
So the assumption is:
“There’s nothing more to look at.”
But like most things with insulation, the reality is usually a bit more layered than that.
“The loft’s been done” usually refers to a moment in time — not necessarily how that loft is performing today.
What people mean when they say it
When someone says the loft’s been done, they’re normally referring to one job.
Something that was carried out at some point.
Maybe:
- insulation was installed years ago
- a previous owner had it done
- it was topped up later on
- or it was part of a general upgrade
And again — none of that is wrong.
Something has been done.
But what that actually looks like now can be very different.
What it often looks like in practice
If you start lifting insulation and looking properly, a different picture usually appears.
Not a single clean install.
But a build-up.
You might find:
- older insulation underneath
- newer layers sitting on top
- areas where things have been moved or disturbed
- sections that don’t quite line up

It gets added to.
