After several weeks of hot, dry weather, the first proper spell of rain can feel like a dramatic change.
The roof experiences that change too.
Surfaces that have spent days repeatedly heating in sunshine may suddenly be exposed to cooler air, rainfall, higher humidity and stronger winds.
A sound roof is designed to deal with changing weather, but the shift can make existing weaknesses much easier to notice.

Where can lap vents fit in?
In suitable felted roof constructions, lap vents can provide additional airflow through overlaps in the roofing underlay.
They are useful in the right situation, but they are not a repair for leaking tiles, damaged flashing or blocked drainage.
The first question should still be: what problem are we actually trying to solve?
Insulation is doing something completely different underneath
While the roof covering manages rain, suitable Knauf insulation in a conventional cold loft continues doing its thermal job at ceiling level.
It does not waterproof the roof.
Nor should a roof leak automatically be treated as evidence that the insulation itself is defective.
If insulation becomes wet because of water ingress, the source of that water should be dealt with before the thermal layer is assessed or reinstated.
